Overwhelming response to book sale on Mahatma, Vinoba Bhave

About 8600 books related to Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave worth Rs. 4.3 lakhs have been sold in the last six days at an exhibition organised in Mumbai by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal in its bid to promote Gandhian values.

The exhibition was organised by the Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Book Centre, with the financial assistance from Shree Babulnath Mandir Charities, at Hutatma Chowk and Gandhi Book Centre at Nana Chowk from January 29 to February 3 to commemorate the 70th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation.

Participation of youngsters boosts sale of Gandhi books

The exhibition-cum-sale of books on and by Mahatma Gandhi, organised recently by the Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Book Centre, has received good response with books worth Rs 2.12 lakh having been sold between January 30 and February 4.

Financial assistance has been provided for the initiative by Babulnath Mandir Charities and Mahalaxmi Mandir Charities.

The exhibition-cum-sale received overwhelming response from the readers as the books worth about Rs 2.12 lakh were sold during the six days.

Books in four languages viz. English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati were sold at the exhibition. In the present world of modern technologies like iPhone, tabs and e-books, it is difficult to believe that many people are still interested in buying Gandhi books. The sale proves that Gandhiji's teachings are relevant than ever.

As the 67th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's martyrdom comes up January 30, a special sale next week will offer untold discounts on books based upon him. Bapu's autobiography 'The Story of My Experiments with Truth' will be available for as little as Rs 30, and his selected works of 2,500 pages come for Rs 75.
Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, which specialises in the sale of books on Gandhi, is organising the sale from January 27 to February 2 from 10.00am to 7.00pm. "We are setting up a counter near Flora Fountain and will also sell the books from our centre at Nana Chowk," said spokesman of Mandal. "Around 250 titles written by Bapu or about him as well as Vinoba Bhave will be available for a 50% discount."
'Selected Works of Mahatma Gandhi', comprising 2,500 pages, is priced at Rs 75. Babulnath Mandir Charities is shouldering part of the subsidy.
